THE GUIDELINES
In the “Vagina” Eve Ensler proclaims to have found the meaning of
womanhood, and doing so In she successfully fulfils its mission to
not only enlighten audience members about the vagina, but also to
give the vagina itself a voice - to tell a story about its
intricacies and idiosyncrasies. It tries to make old and young women
to view themselves as entirely sexual creatures, encouraging them
not to be shy about their physical and emotional well-being.
For this reason, The Vagina Monologues can do more harm than good
for the women who take its message to heart“ To right this wrong,
V-Day and HELP/Nepal are working to end violence against women and
girls in all its forms – changing minds, changing laws, changing
lives What we want to highlight is the necessity, for Nepalese women
and men, of overcoming cultural barriers starting a frank and equal
communication about physical and psychological maltreatments: since
now, that problem has never been faced in a massive and systematic
way, despite the efforts of many local and international
organizations.
We want to act as beginners of a social happening able to blaze up a
huge public discussion that can change the community’s attitude
toward violence itself and women who experienced abuses. Thus, we
believe that the performance of The Vagina Monologues constitutes
just the first shocking step in the direction of the improvement of
the whole Nepalese civil society, our real focus group.
