The Vagina Monologues
has been celebrated as the symbol for women generation and of their
desire of speaking publicly about their sexuality. It represent a
global movement to stop violence against women and girls, is a
catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise
money and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence
organizations. V-Day generates broader attention for the fight to
stop violence, including rape, battery, incest, female genital
mutilation and sexual slavery.
Many people are drawn to V-Day purely because they want to perform
the play, “The Vagina Monologues,” but after being part of a V-Day
event they see a change in themselves, their colleagues and their
communities – they become an integral part of the V-Day movement
because they feel the breath of the other world nearby and they want
to be a part of it, globally and locally. The V-Day movement is
growing rapidly throughout the world and The Vagina Monologues
