THE MISSION

V-Day is a movement that acts globally to end violence towards women. It is a widespread organisation that promotes The Vagina Monologues based on the plays written by Eve Ensler in order to raise funds and awareness against violence towards women through the help of local organisations. V

-Day spreads an always greater awareness of a deeper knowledge of the most common violence: rapes, domestic violence, incest, female genital mutilations and sexual slavery.

Through its global campaign, local volunteers perform The Vagina Monologues to focus the attention of their community on violence towards women. Plays by Eve Ensler have been performed in front of heterogeneous audiences, different but at the same similar one the each other, also in countries where women do not have any right or, in any case, far less than men, where they are blamed and humiliated, where just the fact of talking about their body can irritate local authorities and religious groups.

Prevailing culture exercises one of the strongest influences against change of unwritten rules of the society, of the behaviours and values that perpetuate violence. Vagina Monologues are now part of the popular culture and its performance is having an unprecedented success, both from the artistic point of view and from the people’s participation point of view.
